are you feeling pressure even in between contractions after you’ve been labouring for a while?

how about you were 8cm two hours ago, your water just broke and you’re naturally bearing down?

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 YOU ARE PUSHING FRIEND! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

and we don’t need to check to see if that cervix is gone and interrupt your flow unless there are some risk factors like..

‼️ you’re bleeding red blood during labour more than what your care practitioner consider normal ( the cervix may still be there then!!! )

‼️babies heart rate is being a little sporadic and we are trying to see how much farther they have left to travel!

‼️you have an epidural and can’t feel a single thing!

I started @birthpoolsbygrace in May 2023 on a whim and with my partners credit card 😅 to say it was a leap of faith would be an understatement!!!

Now, here we are! Almost 2 years later, over 100 water births supported, birth pools shipped to the East Coast, West Coast, Northern Territories and it’s just getting started 📍

All I want to do is create access and remove the bias around using a birth pool in labour! It’s my passion. I’ve seen birthers go from struggling to sleeping in MINUTES from hydrotherapy - it’s magical ✨

So in a time where physiological birth is being attacked and repressed, birth pools are an effort to bring the power back into the birthers hands! For comfort. For primal. For privacy. For peace. 🕊️

So we pumped, and fed with a shield ( gave formula twice ) and gave a bottle, and all was well after an amazing visit with @dr.joanna.yeg who got us on track 🏃🏼‍♀️

There are amazing resources now for oral restrictions, utilize mom groups, lactation consultants, postpartum doulas and body workers so that YOU don’t go through this too 😘😘

my nervous system at 4am be VIBRATINGGG 💥

I actually had to talk with my therapist about this because I was really struggling with a few symptoms and restlessness when clients would go into early labour because I would never be able to gauge how much time I would have!

So here’s my tips for you on call girlies 👸

Get dry mouth at 4 AM? Lick your teeth! It’s because your body systems aren’t activated the same so you need to stay hydrated as well as have small snacks to balance your blood sugar / energy levels 📈

Have systems that you put in play as soon as early labour starts! I set up my childcare for 24 hours, I set up my kid for the next day, I cancel any meetings or give heads up if I might have to reschedule and try to prioritize filling my own bucket 🪣

GO TO BED. sleep when you can. You have to train your body to do this! But it’ll take time. Sleep with your ringer on and trust your body to wake up at your ringtones so fall right asleep sooner then later because birth is at 4am 😅 EVERYTIME!!!

being a doula was never on my radar 🤪🤪

first I was a babysitter
then a nanny
then an HCA in an Alzheimer’s unit
then private home palliative care during the panini

but after I had my son. none of those jobs felts right. I felt like I loved my birth & experience so badly I needed to shout it from the rooftops 📣📣

it’s the perfect balance, the dream life, chaotic hours forsure, but at the end of the day you will never be more proud of the families and your inner ability to support birth!!

so I’m always here to mentor you, and I believe in you, because you can love this too ❣️

I purchased this carrier myself to add to my collection as I’ve had a ton of families have interest 🤩🤩

Things I notice ⬇️

📍 The wrap around belt is a new feature I’ve only seen on this carrier!

📍I find newborn tricky to safely wear, so recommend waiting until baby is taller and you can see their face and head!

📍Lots of adjustable waistband options to ensure an ergonomic sit for bb!

sometimes doula work is an uphill sprint 🏃🏼‍♀️

it’s having questions but no one to ask them too!
it’s supporting families through chaos and back!
it’s answering questions sometimes involving medical care and having to give an informed, non bias answer even when it feels wrong.

sometimes it feels like they don’t care. sometimes I realize that even my brain starts to appropriate their actions because of how frequent they happen 👎🏻

I suggest childbirth education for all the families, hire the doulas, do the work, don’t let yourself become a number!
